What is the Average Cost of a Refurbished Cath Lab?

Cath Labs from GE & Philips

So, why the big ranges? Two main reasons:

• Market supply

• Detector size

Differences in detector size are related to the types of studies a system will be used for.

Smaller detectors, like the FD10 and the Innova 2100 are optimal for cardiac procedures. If you plan to perform run-offs, ablation techniques, or tumor/vein embolizations, a large detector like the Innova 4100 or the FD20 is preferable.

Which Cath Lab

is Right for my Facility?

Selecting the best cath lab system for your facility will depend on the type of work you plan to use it for.

Watch this brief video breakdown to see which cath systems are the best fit for the major specialties.

What is a Cath Lab?

A cath lab is an examination room with diagnostic imaging equipment where doctors perform minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat a wide range of cardiovascular issues. In the cath lab, doctors use fluoroscopy to see catheters move through vessels and arteries, and from there can deploy a variety of methods to diagnose and treat various diseases.

One thing that stands a cath lab apart from other modalities is the image to diagnosis to treatment timeline. Modalities such as MRI, CT, Rad Rooms, etc. are diagnostics that provide data to enable treatments. In a cath lab, they are diagnosing and treating, often in the same study.

You'll find cath labs in facilities like Hospitals, Imaging Centers, Office Based Labs, and Ambulatory Surgery Centers.

What are the different

kinds of cath labs?

Learn the difference between floor-mounted, ceiling-mounted cath labs and single-plane vs. biplane cath labs.

A floor-mounted system’s gantry will be mounted on the floor. The only equipment that will hang from the ceiling is the monitor boom, surgical lights, and lead shield options. An example of a system in this wheelhouse is the GE Innova 3100 IQ.

Philips FD 20 Version 7 Declared EOL

Ceiling-mounted Cath Labs

A ceiling-mounted system’s gantry will be mounted on the ceiling, and will require heavy duty structure to hold the weight of the equipment. Systems in this wheelhouse include: Philips Allura XPER FD20, Philips FD 20/20, Philips FD10.

Single Plane

A single-plane Cath lab has a single X-ray generator source and image intensifier. If your work leans in a more general/blended direction (balloons, stents, angio runs, etc.) a single-plane lab can be flexible across a number of specialties.

If you still plan to do neuro or EP studies, but a bi-plane lab just isn't in your budget, allocating some spending to properly equip a single-plane lab can make it capable of handling that type of work as well.

Siemens Biplane Cath Lab

A bi-plane Cath lab is equipped with two C-arms, and can obtain multiple images in less time. A bi-plane system will allow for 3D images to be taken faster than a single plane system.

If your facility is planning for a dedicated neuro or EP lab, for example, you'd be best served by a bi-plane system.
