I've been with Block Imaging now since August 2012. The company asked me to sign on because of my expertise in auto body work and especially refurbishing fiberglass. Not many folks are experienced with fiberglass repair these days, but I developed a love for it while working at Ken's Vette Shop many years ago in Saginaw, Michigan. For several years I had a body shop of my own, doing mostly custom paint jobs with classic cars for shows or personal collections. During all of those years, my lifelong career was with General Motors, working at the GM Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan. I was first interviewed there in 1977 and asked to work as a test driver for Oldsmobile for a three-month period to help them out with the diesel program. This turned into a 31-year career, first as a test driver and finally as a material liaison, dealing mainly with parts for prototype vehicles used in international media settings. It's fun to note that my department was responsible for prepping vehicles that were used in the movie 'The Matrix,' and on television shows like 'Wheel of Fortune' and 'Survivor,' to name a few examples.
It's been great fun and always a challenge to restore plastic and fiberglass panels on medical imaging systems that may be severely damaged, sometimes seemingly beyond repair. I've had the opportunity occasionally to fabricate new and make custom modifications on existing panels. When my job is done, the systems are ready for paint, and after that, my goal is that they look like factory new again! When the need arises, I enjoy working in the paint booth as well.
Metal work and welding are also favorite hobbies of mind, which I've been able to implement for designing and building unique fixtures necessary for the handling of panels for paint and installation.
I've been married to my wife, Tracy, for 37 years now. We have four children and 13 grandchildren. One of our sons lives in Jackson with his wife and two sons, and he also works at Block Imaging. A daughter and a son live out in Colorado Springs, with their spouses and eight of our grandchildren. Our fourth daughter, her husband and three children are currently serving as missionaries in Senegal, West Africa. Some of the things Tracy and I love most are travelling, spending time with our kids and grandkids, and boating on the Great Lakes.
